Everyone touts the benefits associated with the use of LEDs for electric signage: longer life, lower energy consumption and lower maintenance.
Few explain the challenges that sign manufacturers still face installing
and maintaining signs: many class 2 power supplies embedded in the sign; each fed by AC wiring; regulatory issues; and accessibility for
servicing the sign. Translation = increased costs and reduced liability.
LEDs can last 10 years, while the typical life expectancy of the power
supplies is only 3 – 6 years.
By removing the power supplies from within the sign, the reliability of the
sign increases dramatically. Relocating the main power feed to an
easily accessible location enables easy upgrades and maintenance for
worry free operation.
The combination of one larger power supply plus 2-3 MultiLINQ modules
could effectively replace 4 to 20 small power supplies. This could save
money for the purchased equipment, lower the cost of installations,
improve system performance and increase reliability dramatically. |
